Bobbi Caputo

Big Island Folk Artist

Born on the Big Island and raised in the Kona coffeelands, self-taught folk artist Bobbi Caputo is best known for her award-winning “Who Pickin’ the Coffee” childhood memories series, which has garnered four consecutive 1st Place Judges & Peoples Choice Awards over four, consecutive annual Kona Coffee Festival art shows from 2007-2010.

Doodling and dabbling in the arts for many years, her early sketches and acrylic works on canvas progressed in 1999 with renditions of everyday subjects such as cats and dogs, fish and flowers, mermaids and turtles along with her first attempts at scenes with people.

In 2005, her lifelong memories of growing up in the Kona coffee fields provided the artistic inspiration to create "Lunchtime," the first in a series of primitive paintings that captured her child's-eye recollections on canvas.

An ongoing work in progress, the series has grown in number to more than 160 pieces as she continues to tell her coffee story in paint, taking time along the way to revisit her whimsical past with new additions to her Island Girls & Boys, Island Whimsical and Touching Hearts series.
